On the 26th of September students at the University of West of Scotland in Paisley got the opportunity to meet guest speakers from ABPCO (Association of British Professional Conference Organisers). The event was facilitated by Aileen Crawford (Glasgow Convention Bureau) and focussed on partnerships between universities, PCOs, in-house university events teams and city Convention Bureaux and how they can add value to academic association conferences. Among invited speakers were Professor Craig Mahoney, Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of West of Scotland, who talked about his experience of successfully bidding to host the European College of Sport Science in Glasgow. In the afternoon industry members met UWS Events and Tourism Management students for 'speed-mentoring' sessions, sharing insights and experiences of working within the sector. The event offered a fantastic opportunity for students to come face-to-face with the realities and challenges of life in the industry. As one of the students noted, "The whole afternoon was really interesting and exceedingly inspirational. It was such an eye opener as to what this industry has to offer."
