The State of Festival and Event Research Internationally is the theme of the first International Festival and Event Management Research Conference in North America, to be held January 18 21, 2009 in Orlando, Florida, USA. Presentation abstracts and proposals by both academic researchers and practitioners are welcome in the following three categories:
- Research Paper Presentations
- Poster Paper Presentations
- Panel Discussions and Practitioner/Special Topic Sessions
The International Festival and Event Management Research Conference will be hosted by Cognizant Communication Corporation (Event Management: An International Journal); the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, Clemson University; and the Department of Tourism, Events, and Attractions, the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, University of Central Florida.
I. Abstracts are requested for research paper presentations and for illustrated paper (poster) presentations. Abstracts under the following themes are encouraged but all submissions will be given full consideration. Abstracts due by September 15, 2008.

· Sustainability in Festivals and Events
· Hospitality Issues in Festival and Event Management
· Role of Festivals and Events in Community and Economic Development
· Methodological Trends in Festival and Event Research
· Culture and Heritages Role in Festival and Events
· Diversity Issues in Festival and Event Management
· Information Technology in Festival and Event Management
· Safety and Security Issues in Festival and Event Management
· Festival and Event Management in Less Developed Nations
· Web 2.0 and Festival and Event Management
· Policy Issues in Festival and Event Management
Where possible, submissions are requested to emphasize actionable results, theoretical and conceptual approaches to festival and event research. All abstracts for research papers and poster papers will be blind reviewed. Once accepted, research paper presenters are required to submit a full paper for publication in the conference proceedings. Awards will be given for the best research paper and best poster paper, and will be presented to the recipients at the conference. The best poster award is based on the poster displayed at the conference; the best paper award is based on the proceedings paper.
Research paper and Poster presentations only: Submit one electronic copy of your abstract using the Event Management Journal format and graphic quality requirements. Material submitted for review must consist of:
(1) Title page: With the title of the paper and the author(s) name(s), affiliation(s), complete address(es), phone number(s), and email address(es), and appropriate session topic from the list above, or other. Important: Please also indicate on the title page one of the two choices below (a, b) to indicate how the abstract should be reviewed:
a. Review only for an oral presentation.
b. Review only for display as a poster paper presentation. Those researchers whose material lends itself to visual rather than verbal communication should submit poster presentations.
(2) Abstract: Three page abstract with the title of the paper/poster centered at the top, followed by the following sections: introduction, methods, findings, application of results, conclusions, and references (not included in 3 page limit) and should be double spaced, using 1 in. margins and a 12 pt. font.
(3) Poster Paper layout: For illustrated papers only a layout for a six-foot wide by three-foot high poster board.
** Abstracts must be submitted no later than September 15, 2008. Notification of final acceptance will be emailed to the submitter no later than October 31, 2008.

II. Practitioner or Special Topic/Workshop Session Presentation: Proposals for special top sessions and/or workshops are also being requested. These sessions should be developed around a particular topic or issue (preferably referencing categories outlined in Section 1. Above) likely to be of interest to conference attendees and should be organized either as a series of papers followed by discussant(s); as a panel discussion; as a hands-on workshop; or as a tutorial. All sessions last a total of 90 minutes. Persons interested in organizing a practitioner or special topic/workshop session should send a 1 page proposal describing the topic, session objectives and format, likely participants, and the significance to conference attendees of the session topic/focus.

For all speakers and presenters: All participants will be required to submit certain materials through the Conference website at http://people.clemson.edu/~FRANK. Materials include speaker commitment/participation forms, biographies, speaker introductions, and audio visual requests.
